Try Dip Pens, a Brush Pen, and Tones! (2 hours)

Japanese manga artists have been creating diverse lines by skillfully using pen nibs such as G-pens, mapping pens, and Saji-pens. However, while these pens allow for various lines, they can be challenging for beginners due to their strong characteristics compared to markers. Why not try them out and see the difference for yourself? Once you have finished inking, you can add effect lines and finally paste the tones to complete the work. By the end of this course, you will have a good overview of traditional Japanese manga techniques.

What you can take away are:

• Three types of nib pens and a penholder(Made in Japan)
• A brush pen(Made in Japan)
• A knife for cutting tones(Made in Japan)
• Three tones you chose(Made in Japan)
• A line drawing you inked

What you will do are:

1. Draw various lines using the dip pen(G-pen, Mapping pen, Saji-pen)

2. Try inking with the dip pen(can trace my drawing or draw yourself)

3. Paint black with a brush pen(BETA work)

4. Draw lines with a ruler

5. Draw the radiation lines

6. Choose three of the various tones and paste them on your drawing

Congratulations! Your line drawing is now complete
